Gary is the founder and President of Service member Agricultural Vocation Education (SAVE) Corp. He is a 28 year veteran of the US Army. He retired in 1991 as a Colonel. During his career he served three tours in Viet Nam during the war there including 18 months in Laos in Special Ops. He is a recipient of the Purple Heart.
After his retirement he served as a senior civilian at Fort Riley, Kansas, retiring a second time during 2002. He served as a consultant with the Defense Department for 5 years before forming and acting as CEO of a not-for-profit Corporation engaged in providing 2 million books and 400 tons of school supplies to children in Iraq and Afghanistan. Over the past 5 years, he has trained 450 soldiers and veterans wishing to farm.
He is a Master Beekeeper having completed the University of Montana’s three year course. He holds a Bachelor and Master’s Degree from the University of Iowa and a Master’s Degree from the Florida Institute of Technology. He is a graduate of the US Army War College.
He was born on a farm in Iowa and raised in rural Minnesota. He and his wife Jan are parents of three daughters. They currently reside in Manhattan, Kansas.
